Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any length restrictions?
Preferably, the article should not exceed two A4 pages in 12pt font.

Is there anything I’m not allowed to write about?
Not exactly. The only requirement is that the article must not be degrading or offensive in any way.

Can I use artificial intelligence?
AI may only be used as a tool for spelling and grammar correction. It is not permitted to submit an article written entirely by AI. The work must be your own.

Do I have to write about real life outside of school?
No, the article can be completely fictional.

How many winners will there be?
This year, there will only be one winner. However, if everything goes well, there may be multiple winners in the next semester.

What if I want to participate but I’m not good at Icelandic?
That’s no problem, people are often better than they think. The selected article will go through proofreading, and spelling and grammar will be corrected if needed before publication. Authors may also contact the editorial team if they need help. Likewise, the editors may reach out to authors if something is unclear.

How do I submit an article?
Send it by email to haskolabladid@ru.is
Please send it either as text in the email body or as a Word document.

What does it mean to write an “article”?
You can interpret that in your own way. It could be a personal story, a short story, an opinion piece, a news review, or anything else you come up with.

Does the article have to be in Icelandic?
We encourage everyone to write in Icelandic, but international students are not excluded from participating, we also accept articles written in English.
