Lögrétta

Lögrétta, the Law Student Association at Reykjavík University, has the main role of safeguarding the interests and welfare of law students, as well as serving as a link between students and the faculty administration. The board acts as a bridge between the students and the administration of the Reykjavík University School of Law and contributes to the department’s continuous development.

The association’s goals also include promoting academic work in the field of law, both within and outside the department, while ensuring that the academic year is enjoyable and memorable. The association operates through four subcommittees: the Debate Society, the Social Committee, the Lögrétta Journal, and the Lögrétta Legal Aid Service.

The Debate Society provides a platform for discussions on legal issues and trains students in reasoning and public speaking. It hosts open debates on current legal topics that are of particular interest at the time.

The Social Committee manages student life, organizing a variety of events and ensuring that law students have opportunities to take a break from their studies. Among its activities are the Freshmen Night and regular visits to law firms, companies, and institutions.

The Lögrétta Journal is a peer-reviewed academic journal that publishes articles in the field of law. It is intended for scholars and students alike, as well as for the general public, by addressing pressing social and legal issues. The journal also publishes shorter pieces related to current legal matters, such as new court rulings, legislative proposals, or legal debates.

The Lögrétta Legal Aid Service provides a platform where third-, fourth-, and fifth-year law students offer free legal advice to the public, thereby gaining valuable professional experience in the field.
